The Hellenic Development Bank (HDB) awarded three startups created by distinguished Greek scientists to capitalize on the results of their research, as part of the “Researcher’s Night” event.

In a special ceremony held at the HDB offices, Chairwoman & CEO Athena Chatzipetrou, HDB Vice President Pantelis Tzortzakis, and Director of Business Innovation Panagiotis Papageorgiou welcomed the CEOs of the companies BioAssist, DNA SEQUENCE SLR, and eNIOS to present them with awards. The awards were accompanied by the entry of these companies into the new “InnoAgora powered by HDB” platform, through which they will have direct connections with investors. Additionally, the awarded companies will receive mentoring services and other specialized consulting services from HDB’s executives.

Ms. Chatzipetrou, after thanking Professor Tonia Moropoulou for organizing “Researcher’s Night”, which “brings us closer to the world of research and innovation,” as she emphasized, addressed the CEOs of the awarded companies and stated, among other things:

“Research generates hope. Hope for the future, as it opens new horizons and provides solutions to modern challenges. Research is a driving force for both the academic and business communities. Your distinction recognizes and justifies your efforts. We are here to help you in the next steps of your journey. With your entry into InnoAgora, the new digital community created by HDB, hosted on the massive EuroQuity platform of French Bpifrance, you will now have the opportunity to meet business partners from across the European Union and become visible to over 2,000 investors. At the same time, along with our specialized executives, we will support you by offering consulting services, mentoring, and expertise wherever needed.”

The Researcher’s Night

Every year, more than two million visitors in 30 countries and over 400 European cities participate in the European Researchers’ Night, an initiative by the European Commission aimed at familiarizing the public with the world of research and innovation.

The National Technical University of Athens (NTUA), for the eighth consecutive year, is once again connected to this great European celebration of research, “European Researchers’ Night”, and organized the Researcher’s Night at NTUA on Friday, September 24, 2021.

The event was also coordinated by the Hellenic Centre for Scientific Research and Technology (EKETA), with participation from the University of Patras, University of Thessaly, Institute of Technology and Research (ITE), and the Hellenic Mediterranean University.

Introduction to the Achievements of Researchers

The event showcases the researchers from NTUA, universities in Attica, research centers, school groups from all over Greece, start-ups, and innovative companies, presenting their research achievements to the public, with a focus on connecting research with innovation and entrepreneurship.

Students, educators, and young entrepreneurs participated this year in presentations, events, and activities, interacting through a series of hands-on experiments, on-site measurements, and applications using high-tech scientific instruments, demonstrations of technical devices, and models.

At the Researcher’s Night, one can observe research activities, innovative designs, and projects in every field of science, from molecular engineering and health to transportation and energy.

This year, the emphasis was placed on research efforts addressing the challenges of climate change and environmental degradation, within the framework of the European Green Deal for sustainable development with social cohesion.
